What is the best type of electronic dictionary to learn chinese, japanese, french and spanish?

i am a beginer in all these languages, i'm ok at reading but when i come across a new word i get stumped, and i don't want to go but a new dictionary each year because of updates to the language...so any help would be highly appreciated. thanks.
