Oxford dictionary..?
Hi, English is my second language.I am now in North America and would stay here for long. So far, I have been using "Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary". I found this dictionary quite good. I just realized that the pronounciation keys and usage etc in this dictionary would be Britain-based, whereas what I need is some American-based dictionary. Would sbdy pl suggest some popular American-based dictionary... Thanks

- Yes. Merriam-Webster's 11th Collegiate Dictionary. It bears in mind the British usage and includes it where necessary.
- Merriam-Webster is a good choice. www.m-w.com
- I use The Random House College Dictionary.
- The American Heritage Dictionary would be my choice. You can access it online through Bartleby. http://www.bartleby.com A good "English as a second language" dictionary is Heinle's. http://nhd.heinle.com/home.aspx A good, traditional online dictionary is Dictionary.com. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071215114834AAYZFjn&r=w&pa=FZptHWf.BGRX3OFMiDNSVHyJfpVqxtP6TIk9iJTu1eQRVIaCfw--&paid=answered#OplEL0X5UGIFaeSSOceq
